Hello Everyone!
I am new to the Chins n Hedgies website, but I have owned chinchillas for many years and used this website for a number of years without joining. I apologize if I post this in the wrong section, but I figure this would be most beneficial for soon-to-be or new owners of chinchillas. I noticed that there was a lack of information on how much it costs to own a chinchilla, which I believe may be helpful for those that are thinking about becoming chin parents. I have written up the figures of how much it cost me (startup cost and yearly cost). I had two chinchillas up until three months ago, but unfortunately I had to rehome one due to him attacking the other. I tried to keep him, but he was starting to make the victim chinchilla starve to death. I had no other safe place for him in my home, so I had no other choice but to rehome him. I will be adding my costs as if I had two and then provide a separate figure chart for just one. I do want to note that I tend to shop at DrsFoster&Smith.com and my local pet store rather than PetSmart and Petco.
The prices of items may be increased or decreased depending upon where you live.
I have provided links for everything I have listed to the best of my ability while finding the lowest prices for items. I hope that this will help future chin parents in helping them make the decision to care for one of these cute balls of fluff!
