Clean-up of Drool from Malo

I have a rescue chin that has malocclusion and has had two filings so far; he is scheduled to see a dental specialist in early November so that we can better assess his long-term prognosis and get him worked on. In the meantime, however, he has started drooling and favoring one side of his mouth while eating again. I'm watching him like a hawk to ensure he doesn't stop eating before then, but I'm concerned about him possibly developing dermatitis of some sort from the drool before his specialist appointment comes up. What is the best way to deal with his drooly chin for the next two weeks? Should I sponge-bathe the area and towel-dry him then blow-dry on low/no heat? If so, how frequently? What should I watch for, as far as irritation to his skin before and after cleaning him? Anything else I need to be watching for?

He also got attacked by his cage-mate when he began getting ill again (they have since been separated) and he has a large scab on his back). Is there anything I should be extra careful about with this when cleaning his chin? Should I try to wipe down his wound (it's a dried up scab at this point) at the same time to maintain, or just let it be?
