Fur stuck to wiskers

Hi, I think my chinchilla accidentally rubbed his whiskers in some glue or some kind of adhesive somehow and now some of his fur is stuck to his whiskers. I've tried gently to remove it but it wont come out, should i just leave it, cut it off, or try to give it a bit of a harder tug? I don't know if his whiskers serve certain function that he now can't do, so I'm not really sure what to do.
