So I had made a previous post about how I was getting a new chinchilla (a year old white female) to get a companion for my year old standard grey female.
When I had gotten the white female I put her in a separate cage and put her in the corner of the room that my grey female is in.
The white one has played in the room and seems to be happy by jumping off the walls and running around. She has had previous chinchilla companions and has not seemed aggressive at all when she sniffs the grey chinchilla. I don't let them get to smell each other too long mainly because I don't know if one will bite. She seems very happy, and curious.
My grey female has a cage that is elevated off the ground, but the white chinchilla can reach far enough so she can sniff the grey one if she's at the edge and her paws can reach in the cage. The grey female always seems to want to play. I put a sheet up so the grey female can't reach the white one's cage when she is out since there are only her cage wires in between them. My grey one is very friendly to me and lets me pet her and hops up in the chair I sit in to visit me.
I had switched their baths so they can get each others scent. None of them have made noises towards each other or seemed to want to bite or fight the other.
QUESTION: What I'm trying to ask is when should I let them play together? I have a large bathroom where there is a lot of room and I can put some boxes and toys for them to hide and be occupied with instead of them focusing just on each other. I would like to put them both in my grey chinchilla's cage (since it's bigger) so when I believe that can be done I'll clean the cage completely and move things in it around and put new toys in it. Anyone have advice on when a good time for them to play together would be?
