I have a six year old chinchilla which I adopted at 1.5 years of age.
Lately she has less energy and seems to have lost weight.
I arranged for an ultrasound ($180) and urine test ($65) but the result was normal. I arranged for a blood test ($350) under anaesthesia.
Results of interest:
Thyroid 70.8
Blood sugar 10.8
The doctor wants me to come back in a week to do another blood sugar test.
He intends to prescribe insulin if necessary.
The doctor says that thyroid medication in chinchillas would be off-label use. Do you have any other numbers or information on thyroid hormone?
He suspects hyperthyroidism.
