Help refurbishing ferret nation?

I just bought my second ferret nation, I got my first one on Black Friday a few years ago and recently found one on craiglist for 80$! It is a two story, 142. It was used by a groomer and is kinda beat up. Some spots being rusted, does anyone have experience with cleaning cages like this and refurbishing them? What type of paint should I use on it, and what to get the rust off? Plastic pans of course have been tossed and bass equipment pans have been ordered. Having never fixed up a cage before I want to make sure it is entirely chin safe.



So how can I remove the rust? What is the best way to paint it, or any brand that is okay? Thanks in advance.
