Last night as I was putting the boys to bed I noticed that Pita didn't come running as usual and saw that he was scratching he couldn't seem to stop and today it's worse. He looks miserable his ears are tucked tight and his whiskers are droopy. Of course it's Good Friday so the vet is closed today. I'll be taking him in tomorrow to see if he has ringworm or mites but is there anything I can do in the meantime to relieve his itchyness?
I'm cleaning out the cage and making sure to sanitize and wash down everything in case it's something that's causing an allergic reaction. Also just going to feed him his pellets and hay tonight. I'm trying to find something that's changed in the past couple of days and the only thing I can think of is a new chinchilla treat marketed as specially made for chinchillas that the boys really like. but he's been having one every night for at least 2 weeks.
It's not an emergency, but I hate to see him in distress - is there anything I can do till we get to the vet and while we wait for the tests to be done?
