Here is the short version:
I wanted to try another rabbit in my life. As a young girl my rabbit became aggressive in her cage and someone my family knew offered to care for her as they were much more experienced.
I adopted this bunny from a girl at a farm animal swap meet at Southern States. I asked her a million questions. The most important being aggression. After answering all my questions to my satisfaction, I went ahead and adopted this rabbit. The young lady said she had been aggressive and she bred her and it stopped. She said she just had not been spending any time with her and wanted to find her a home.
Well this bunny IS AGGRESSIVE! :hair:
I started by calling the original breeder to see if she wanted her back. She told me she was full with recent rabbits she picked up at the show. I contacted rabbit rescues all over the state of Virginia with only one responding.
However she was relocating to another state. She did offer me some tips on how to get her out of the cage, don't wear gloves, have patience, and sometimes spaying them will help.
This is what this rabbit will do. She lunges, will box your hand, bites or nips, while in the cage. Out of the cage she will lunge or pinch her ears back.
While in the cage she will either pinch her ears back or lunge as a warning.
She has been with us a little over a month. I have finally managed to pet her all the while making her beg for her cookie. ( Oxbow treats for rabbits) Keep in mind that works most of the time. Not all.
Yesterday I learned to not make her wait for the cookie too long when I was checking her hay. She bit the living "you know what" on my hand. She bites hard. Sometimes a nip to the back of the hand draws a bit of blood.
I have managed to get her out and put her in a playpen sometimes.
I know this rabbit is not horrible. I've also called several vets who say a spay may stop this behavior and sometimes not all. In her best interest, I think this bunny needs a person who knows just how to deal with an animal like this. A bunny whisperer so to speak.
She has a brand new cage. I bought the extra plastic square tile for her to be off the wire when she needs it. It has an exterior hay feeder.
She is eating Timothy hay, Oxbow pellets and she lives for those little cookies from Oxbow. That is the key to winning this girls heart.
SHE NEEDS TO BE AN INDOOR BUNNY. She's too small to endure high heat or cold.
I would prefer she goes to a home that knows she may or may not change. I caution anyone with small children as she can bite very hard.
I'm not worried about her adoption fee. I could wave that to the right person.
If you would like her and the cage, I would ask $70. It's a large nice cage that sits in a tray. You can pick up the cage off the tray. Very nice. You don't have to touch her to clean her.
I do have her original pedigree. Her birthday is October 29, 2011.
And please note that rabbit's require a special vet to spay.
I do know one in my area that I would be willing to share with you if your near Williamsburg Virginia.
Your welcome to visit her or ask me any questions.
I will be out of town for a few weeks towards the end of June. But you can reach me by email.
I won't put this girl on craigslist. I'll sit back and wait for the right person for her. Thanks for looking.
Note: The last photo was in the older cage. The first two photo's are her brand new cage.
