Online chinchilla websites? - UK

I used to use chins2shop, but she is closing down. Does anyone else know any other sites that has a lot of toys for chinchillas?

Dental Surgery - I need some support :(

Maybe for the past 2 days I noticed my chinchilla Moxxi (3 1/2 years old) been very quiet lately in her cage. I noticed she tries to eat things and she just grinds her teeth. It's the same behavior when trying to chew things. So I thought their must be something wrong with her teeth. I look at her teeth and her bottom lower one was pretty big. This scared me so I got a Vets appointment today and I won't be hearing from them until sometime after 3pm. They putting her asleep and doing surgery on her tooth. Seems it has gotten overgrown.

Is there anyway to prevent this? I mean like extra ordinary way to prevent this?

I personally was thinking putting them (3 girls & 2 Boys) in their playpen just with a lot of toys and see what goes on a daily basis. They do have toys of course, but I always wonder if it's enough. Or is there any tricks on what toys to give them to help with this situation?

Also need some support from others, to tell me their experiences with this.

Thanks

Couple of questions

Hi, I have a couple of questions since I am a first time owner of a Chinchilla. He is relatively young. Approximately 2-3 months. He is very tiny. I just want some questions answered.

1. We are thinking about converting a dresser/armoire or into a habitat for him, or building a custom habitat for him. (right now he is in a very large bi-level "rabbit" cage. any advice?
2. I noticed scrolling through pages upon pages of Chinchilla sites, people seem to have more than one. Should he have a friend? If so, when and how should I introduce another.
3. Food options. Right now he is on a commercial Chinchilla feed. When to give fresh food (fruits veggies etc) and what is good and not so good?
4. "Toys" do's and don'ts. Wood chews? Hay treats? There's so many things out there labeled great for Chinchillas, but what are the best toys?
5. Is there anything specific I should look out for considering we only have him at home for 4 days?
Thank you!!

Hello!

My name is Caitie. I am a pre-vet student at Mizzou (go tigers!). I adopted my first chinchilla Mable about a year ago when she was very young. I have been finding useful advice on this forum as a non member since the day I got her but have decided to join in order to learn even more and post my own questions. I am very excited to join this group of people who have a love for chinchillas like me.

Hello!

Hello everyone! My name is Nikki, I am 32. I live on the south shore of Long Island, New York. I recently "adopted" a 3 month old male Chinchilla, named Poe(after Edgar Allen Poe) with my girlfriend. This is my first experience with a Chinchilla, so I joined this forum after many google searches. We are planning on expanding our Chinchilla family and building a bigger more custom cage. I have always loved small animals and have had hamsters, rats guinea pigs and rabbits through the years. I'm also a mom to two dogs and two hermit crabs. Just wanted to introduce myself and browse some topics and get a better handle on Chinchillas. (would add a picture but not sure how to) :hug3:

Hello!

Hey chin and Hedgies!

Finally found the intro sub ( link in email didn't work for me). I'm 27 f, from Canada. I'm a first time chinchilla mom, life time chinchilla lover. I've always loved the little furballs but I had to make sure I had the right environment to bring a chin into. I've got a 7 month old chin named Sugar because she's sweet as sugar :P I'm also a cat mom two two wonderful cats. Let me tell you that introducing a chin to cats was an adventure! For a while I thought what did I do? What if this doesn't work? After time and bonding I can say now that my cats and my chins are good friends (well as much as you can be friends with a cat lol ), some times my cats just like sitting and watching my girl sugar play, other times they can't be bothered. If she's feeling sassy she does what I love to call "dust bomb" me or the cats, where she goes in her bath rolls around then bounces near them or me. It's been incredibly fun learning my girls personality, what she likes, her favourite treats (apple skin and cranberries).
Anyways I stumbled upon this site after googling some chin facts ( I always make sure I have the right facts about what to do with my chin before I do it, at least I try to), I ended up finding a yahoo question and answer about letting chins outside. My fiance had just asked if we could let her out and I said no it's too dangerous, but I had to look and be certain ( new parent paranoi?) A few more links later and voila! Here I am! So I think that's about it, I gotta stop writing or I'll just keep going 😋 I'm excited to meet other chin owners, and make sure my girl has the best possible life!

Fitting double ferret nation in ford focus

Does anyone have tips on how to get an already assembled ferret nation cage into a ford focus? I have a pretty roomy trunk, and the seats fold down. I don't mind taking the top layer off, but I'd like to leave it mostly assembled if possible. If anyone has any experience, please let me know :)

Where shall I put my cage?

Hiya!

So we currently have 2 areas that are viable as to where to put the cage - the basement or a cubby room however I'd like to know which would be best? The basement is great in that it's quiet and cool however in order to let them out we'd need to put them in a carrier and take them upstairs. However the cubby room is convenient in that we'd be able to open up the cage and they can freely roam the room and head back to the cage when they please - but the downside is that the washing machine is in there. The machine has a wooden cover around it so it is fairly quiet but when it's on it is still noticeable. What would you guys recommend?

Crusty clump under her chin?

I've been keeping an extra close eye on my chinchilla lately because she seemed to be acting a bit odd. She's been sitting in unusual places in her cage, and doesn't seem to be eating much hay or pellets (but sure does spread it around). She does get very excited at the prospect of a treat though, she seems to be pooping fine, and I hear her running in her wheel in the night after I've gone to bed.

A couple of times in the past I've noticed that she had some crusty junk in her fur under her chin. I was worried about tooth problems each time, but they were individual incidents that were spaced out so I figured she just got something in her fur (like maybe juice from a piece of fruit).

Yesterday she had a bit of it in her fur under her chin again but I didn't think much of it because she had a bit of something stuck in the fur on her back a few days ago... but today it's worse and she's got a clump there now. I tried to crumble it with my fingers but couldn't and she was clearly miserable about it so I thought I'd leave it alone for now.

What is going on? I'll be calling the vet tomorrow to make an appointment, but I'm pretty worried about the little bug now so I thought I'd see if anyone knows what this is...

Introducing a new chin - how will it change our relationship?

Hello!
I am looking to bring a new chin to my family. I have one 2 year old male chin, and am looking at a younger chin to pair him with. I've done a ton of reading on how to go forth with that, and my only real concern is how introducing a new chin will change my relationship with my older chin. He's a sweet, loving boy who lets me cuddle with him and give him scratches. He's very aware and has the best personality. We both worked really hard to get him here and to be comfortable around each other, so I am worried how bringing a new buddy in will change things between us. I am considering the new chin as my schedule is getting busier - I want to try to bond my boy with a buddy (though I understand this is a process and may not work). Please let me know if anyone else was having thoughts like this and how it turned out! I feel a little crazy worrying about our relationship, but he really is my best friend!

Thank you!

Preparing wood without oven?

Hello everyone!

Me and my husband received alot of chin safe woods : Willow, Apple, Pear and Hazelnut.
We don't really have a good oven and was wondering if we could airdry them in the house/outside when it's not raining, after having them boiled and scrubbed?

I hope to have an answer soon! Thank you!

New owner nerves

Was anyone else nervous when they first got their chin? I'm getting my first two in 2 weeks time and although I'm sure it'll go smoothly, (I've done so much research) I'm still super nervous! I think it's partially to do with the fact that, although I've had many pets before the chins will be the first pet that I can call my own!

Defensive sounds?

My chinchilla made several noises last night (according to this website,
HTML Code:

http://ift.tt/2s1CJzM
the sound is the defense sound). He made it a couple of times last night, which is rare for him. I got him out of the cage and examined him thoroughly, he did not make any pained noises while I was checking him over and I found nothing wrong. After i placed him back in his cage, he didn't make the noises anymore. I am concerned, but I don't know if I am overreacting or not. He was just at the vet last week and got a clean bill of health. Should I just keep my eye on him or should I start panicking?

Can i feed my chinchilla field hay before its cut

I live in Kentucky and next to a field that is hayed yearly. I know there is nothing sprayed or used to treat it. Can I cut hay out of this field myself and feed it to my chinchilla?

Breaking pellets into chunks - not powder

Hello all,
I haven't posted here in a while since I first got my chin. He is now 3.5 years old roughly and in the past 3-5 days has developed a weird new behaviour that I am beginning to worry may be malo.
I feed Science Selective Chinchilla pellets (UK) and suddenly he has started to break them into little chunks. I've been weighing the bowl and he is still eating, but leaving behind lots of little chunks (not powder) roughly .5cm across. I wasn't sure if it was just the pellets so I just gave shredded wheat and he has done the same thing - he breaks it into small pieces and then eats them, leaving some behind. I'm starting to worry this is malo, but he is still eating hay and food, still chewing and is generally happy in himself.
My only other idea is that it might be due to the heat - we've been having 28-30C heat in the UK and our houses don't have A/C. I've been putting a small A/C unit by the cage which helps, but obviously I think he is still uncomfortable. When it's hot, there are a lot more chunks left behind (although it might be a coincidence).
I'm preparing myself to go see the vet but wanted to get some opinions here first.

Sudden behavioral changes - battle mode

Hi,

I'm new to the forums and am having an issue with one of my male chinchillas.

His name is Oliver, he is a dark ebony unaltered male chinchilla. I acquired him from a breeder when he was just a little baby. He has always had a very strong personality, but always sweet and playful.

However, ever since he matured into an adult chin (he is five years old now) he has absolutely despised other chinchillas. In his youth, he lived with another one of my chins, Fivol (same age - violet unaltered male) and was very happy with him. Until he matured and decided they were to be mortal enemies.

Ever since then, he will only accept females. But since I don't plan on breeding him nor do I have any spayed females, he's living solo.

About one month ago, he somehow figured out how to get himself from his enclosure to his arch nemesis' layer (he got himself into Fivol's enclosure) I was gone at work when this happened (I still cannot figure out HOW he did it...) needless to say, I came home to a bloodbath. My Fivol was torn to bits and since Fivol is a VERY passive chinchilla, he didn't fight back. Oliver was in perfect condition. Not even a nip on his ear/nose.

Oliver was relocated away from the other chins and is now in his own (entirely his own) enclosure.

Here's the issue now: Ever since this battle he has been in “battle mode” and is not as friendly as he used to be. He is defensive, barks at being touched, he will pee on you to try and deter you from touching him, grinds his teeth, clicks them together irritably and overall gets himself all fired up over the littlest thing.

This is not a normal behavior for him, he is usually very curious and always has to investigate things before their put in his house (hands included) but never has he shown such agitation. He has not tried to bite yet, but he threatens to if you push him any further, once he's heated.

He doesn't lunge, bite, or act aggressive per say, but more like something is really bothering him. I cannot find any injuries on him or bite wounds. I have always taken care of him first before any of my other chins, due to his a fore mentioned problem with other chins. So I don't smell like Fivol or anyone else that would set him off.

He's OK with being picked up and smooshed like normal and doesn't “attack” me, but like I said, a switch has gone off in his little mind and I don't know what to do about it...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chinchilla Insurance

Does anyone have Pet Insurance for their chinchilla? If so, how much do you usually spend? Do you recommend it?

Hello! Newbie w/an oldie chin :)

Hi everyone! I'm so happy I came across this forum tonight during another late night procrastinating on sleep. :tired:

I have 5 chinchillas. I've had Dusty since April 2005, when an ex-bf bought him for me from a breeder near or in Cocoa Beach, FL. He's my baby, who's been with me through it all since my college days! It wasn't until 2014 that we got him a (girl)friend, Skittles. We (the fiance and I) adopted her from a family in the area who had put up a sign in Publix. So, despite living in separate cages, they ended up having 3 babies after Jon, my fiance, let them play together lol. So along came Dusty, Jr.; Harriet; and Lily. :bluebounce::magentabounce::magentabounce:

I plan on reading through a lot of the info on here whenever I have downtime from here on out. If any one has any particular info on prolonging my little guy's life as longgggg as possible, please let me know!

About me: I'm a flight attendant living in S. FL. Currently consumed with planning a wedding (and loving it most of the time lol). My fiance loves my/our chinchillas and jokes that Dusty Jr. is his if we ever go our separate ways (not happening) lol.

Covering the cage?

I've asked some questions in regards to this in the past but I hadn't had much response so I wanted to try again.

Long story short... For the time being one of my cats is sleeping in my bedroom with me, which is where the chinchilla cage is. He usually leaves him alone for the most part, as he's only on the top half of the CN. My goal is to give him access to the entire cage again. He was restricted when he was sick but I want to expand again.

The issue is with the cat, who I know won't leave him alone. The chin is not bothered by him but I can't let him down there without something additional to cover the bars with. I bought chicken wire but it said it contained lead so I didn't know if that was safe or not...
I just want suggestions for what I can use to create an extra barrier between the chin and my cat. I'm hoping to move to a place where he has his own room but until then, I have to work with what I have.

I'd love for him to have the whole cage again. Any ideas?

Holiday expectations

Hey guys I'm going on holiday in September (so I'll of had my chinchilla's for roughly two months), we're going to get someone to come round to the house to look after them with strict rules but I'll roughly be gone for 10 days, what should I expect when I get back? Will I have to gain their trust again?

Chins wanted in Orange County?

Hi there,

My wife and I are looking for a chinchilla to call our own. We live in Orange County, do you happen to know any breeders down here, or do you happen to have any chinchillas available?

We've called around and most of the breeders close to us were closed down or haven't gotten back to us.

AC Went Out!!

Hi all,
Our air conditioning went out early yesterday evening. We're unsure of when it will be fixed, but average temperatures where we live are peaking at 95. I am extremely concerned about my three chinchillas overheating. To combat the rising temperatures, I turned a box fan on in their room on full blast, turned on the ceiling fan, and am keeping the door to their room open to increase air flow. Any other suggestions on what to do before the AC is fixed? Could I use ice packs or cold water bottles for them to lay on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sick Female Chinchilla?

Hi everyone! I have recently adopted some chinchillas, we first started with 1 2 year old chinchilla, I've done TONS of research before taking her in and since she was housed with other chinchillas we felt bad for separating them so about 1 month later after that (which was 1 week ago) we got 2 more females approximate aged 6 or 7. We had only planned to get 1 additional one but we got 2 instead because they were sisters. Well, now the 2 sisters get along but our first one doesn't. They will fight with fur flying everywhere and our first one got bit and bled some. So we caged them separately but try to keep them close together so they can see and smell each other. We also swap them into each other cages so they eventually will get adapted to being in the 1 big one all together. This has been a week now and they still don't get along and now one of the sisters isn't acting as hyper as she has been since we got her. THIS POTENTIAL EMERGENCY is starting to worry me because she is sleeping all day AND night (they are nocturnal) and usually doesn't like to be cuddled or picked up and as you can see in the photos she is totally the opposite now. Her ears and tail are no longer perked up. She is also making a squeeking noise almost like a sneeze which is different but if there is any advice out there on pairing them and their activity/thus situation please let me know! Thanks so much for reading this!

PS she is now lethargic to where she can barely move. I've been trying to give her Critical Care but she stopped wanting to take that now at 5:30AM. She's maybe had a teaspoon tonight. I am afraid to go to bed as i don't want to wake up to her leaving us :(

I keep them in a 3 story cage, I let them roam around and explore under supervision. I give them Ox Bow pellets and fresh water, I clean the cages once per week as I use fleece liners and provide plenty of chew toys and attention. What went wrong??

No budget really for a vet at this point in time :( Help please!

Worried for my chinchilla

My brother and I got chinchillas about two years ago off of craigslist because we both loved chinchillas and wanted to save some. His chinchilla was a boy(Patty) and mine was a girl(Penelope), but I always kept them separated because I didn't know their genetics and didn't want to risk anything. About two months ago my brother decided to open the ramp between the two cages and when I got home I found the wax and found out it meant they mated. I wanted to take her to the vet but my parents told me not to worry about it and right now I kinda just need advice on what I should be doing. I have bay proofed the cage and done all the research I can and I just found this website and thought real people might be able to help.

Does my chin hate me now?

so about 2 weeks about My girlfriend and I adopted a chinchilla named Luna, she is about a year old and since we got her shes never made a noise. earlier today I went to pick her up out of her play pen, she went for a sprint and my hand ended up slipping and I accidentally ended up tugging on her fur a bit, she freaked out and I think may have tried to take a bite out of me, she then made a noise that I think sounded like discomfort. she did end up letting me hold her and shes never tried to really squirm out of our arms since we got her and she still didn t now. Just before though I went to pet her and she started making the noise again, my girlfriend can hold her and pick her up fine but she makes the noises for me, she still has been running around, eating, drinking, pooping and playing with her toys but that noise concerns me, do Chinchillas hold grudges? does she hate/fear me now because of the slight incident? also should I be wary of trying to pick her up if she is making noises? will she try to bite me? should I try and just let my girlfriend handle that and ease Luna into me?

Going out of country for a LONG time - What do I do with the chins?

Hey guys, my family will be going away for a week in the fall and a month and a half in late fall/early winter. I don't know what to do with my chins while we're gone.

I've gotten an electronic pet feeder(http://ift.tt/1IEOjS2), a big water bottle(it leaks though :/), and I'm getting an outdoor cat playpen today. Do you think they could be good by themselves with this stuff for a week?

One of my sister's teachers had chinchillas before, but she has a family and is probably busy(she homeschools). We're not too close with her, so I don't know if it'll be appropriate to ask her to take care of our chins while we're gone. Especially for 1 and 1/2 months.

What do you guys do when you're away from home?

How do I handle my chin without losing it's trust?

Hey!

So I'm getting my chins in a months time (yay!) however I'm just wondering how do you get them back in their cage after play time? I'm only anticipating letting them out for exercise for about 10 minutes to begin with (they'll be 5-6 months old) but how do I get them back in without ruining any trust I would be beginning to form?

Tia! :)

New Chinchilla Dad

So I have been researching and doing my homework on chinchillas for a long time but I never got a chance to bring one home. I work as a foster volunteer for a parrot rescue for many years now and today someone brought in a pair of birds along with a chinchilla! They claim they bought him from Petsmart a few months ago but since they are moving out of the country unexpectedly they can't bring any of their pets. We got him in to see our exotics vet for a check up and he appears to be in good health. His cage isn't the best but I replaced everything inside that was plastic or material with fleece and safe wood. He is eating oxbow pellets and timothy hay. Can I get some tips for earning this little guys trust? I figure I will give him a few days to settle in before I start trying to interact with him apart from talking.

how to take care of my chin in winter with high humidity level

Hi,

It's the winter season in New Zealand, and the city I live in is relatively cold with the humidity level ranging between 66-90% (can go higher sometimes). I could use a dehumidifier, but unfortunately running one will only consume electricity without resolving the issue. When I turn mine on (brand new) and set it for 45%, it won't even go below 60%.

The temp outside is usually between 4-12 C and inside is 19-20 C when the heater is on. Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem, or can help me out? I'd love to hear your feedback on this :-)

Can I buy hay bales off Craigslist for my chins?

Hi all,

I notice a lot of people are selling bales of timothy hay, both first and second cut, on Craigslist. They're about $5-7, so very inexpensive compared to what I see in stores. I'm also assuming they're pretty big. Should I pick up a bale to try out?

If it's ok, what precautions should I make so the hay is safe for the chins?

My chins had been fed Charlie Chinchilla feed from their previous owner, and I switched them to hay and pellets. The first bag that I got(and is still going through) isn't very good quality, but they were still very excited when they started eating hay. They're not pampered to 'best quality hay' and that stuff, not yet. So I'm not sure if that will matter in comparison of my chins being picky on new types of hay.

Baby Chin color ID, need opinions :D

So, my 2 girls had their first litters a month ago, and I am struggling to identify the colors of 2 of the babies. Their mom is a Tan Medium and the daddy is a White Velvet RPAc. I need opinions on their colors, especially with the white female (she was born very little and she is still not fully fluffy, I think shes a Light Tan white). Any help please? =)

The lil baby boy (hes got his head and tail a lot darker than the rest of his body):

The white baby girl (shes got darker spats on one side of her face, close to the eye, and a tan tail with a white tip, and her nose is a little darker):

Fleece advise!

Hey guys!!

So I'm wanting to line my chin cage with fleece before they get here, however I didn't know what type of fleece to buy before purchasing but where I got it from doesn't state what type of fleece it is either. It describes it as "cuddle fleece". I know it should be polar and antipile, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this material IS antipile or polar and whether it is safe to use for my chins. I'll inset pictures of the material down below and thank you in advance! :)

Aggressive Behavior

I've had my chinchilla (Stickshift) for well over 9 years about almost 10 now. I've had him since he was 1 & half years old. He's always been friendly with me & even given me kisses. I'm the only one in my household that handles him/feeds him & cleans his cage.

2 months ago, he got his first ear infection & around that same exact time I got him a new cage after the one he's had since we first got him too. He wasn't able to enjoy the cage for a while since the ear infection caused him to not be mobile but after he healed up he was able too.
The old cage
The new cage

Now to fast forward to almost a week to two weeks ago. My now husband & I had him in the bathroom for a dust bath & he was perfectly fine, enjoying his bath & getting dust all over us. We put him back into the cage & later that day, my husband goes over to give him a treat & Stickshift takes the treat & is happy. My Husband & Stickshift have been forming a better relationship too as at first stickshift would sometimes nip at Josh but never bit him hard but then later would as for the pets later on lol.

But as the day went on, Josh went over to stickshift while I was cooking and bit him hard. I just told Josh it might just be him being a butt. another hour went by and he bit Josh hard again as he was going to just pet him. So I go over to the cage & to talk to stickshift to see what was up. He bit me hard. He has never bit me hard ever. Later on as I walk by the cage to check on stickshift as I was worried. He was attacking the bars. So I go to grab a towel & pick him up from that way & take him to the bathroom we normally have him in to run around, just to have one on one to see if he was okay. He was trying to attack me after biting me several more times. I had to sit on the toilet just to be out of reach! I felt so silly having to do so but I had never experienced stickshift being this way towards me.

I eventually was able to pick him up with the towel & put him in his cage but since then his behavior has been completely different to Josh & myself. He's peeing everywhere in his cage & not in the potty that I had trained him to go in long ago that's in his cage. I haven't changed the brand of food or water, I've stopped giving him treats. At first I thought it could of been matted fur since he's peeing everywhere the bottom fur around his private area is getting wet. So I got a towel the other day and wrapped him up and removed quite a bit of fur by hand when massaging it out. But he still was being mean.

Yesterday I was cleaning his cage and had to put him in a crate just to clean it as he would keep trying to attack my arms if not. I even moved things in his cage to see if it's him trying to assert dominance. After I cleaned it & moved things around I put him back in his cage. He noticed things were moved. I then put on some baggy sweat pants on along with a baggy thick jacket on and opened the cage. I held out my arms (mind you my hands were inside the jacket as I was afraid of him biting me) to see if he would want to come out to play. He goes into my arms and we go into the bathroom & I let him take his dust bath. I sit in the corner not moving and just watch. He isn't charing at me or attacking me.He even sits on me. I pet him a few times and he doesn't bite me. I had him out for about 30mins and nothing. Picked him up just fine and put him in his cage. He went back to being aggressive so I knew it had to be him and the cage.

This morning I could barely clean his cage. He constantly was attacking my arm while I wore that baggy thick jacket. he got a few bites in me through the jacket until it was the point I sat there crying because I don't know what's going on with my stickshift. I'm so scared that if I can't figure it out that I cannot keep him since I can't even put my hand in his cage to give him food or even clean out his cage.

The bites this moring through the jacket

Hello there all :)

Its been a long time since I been here. So figure I'd say hello to everyone again. I had a chinchilla in the past, he passed due to old age. After a long time, I've decided to get a pair. Looking through all the new great posts and information. :)

Treats- What do give the good fuzballs :)

Hey folks,
I been curious. What do people give their chinchillas as treats? I know that sugar is not good for them, nor is screwing with their diet suddenly. Gotta keep those stomachs happy. So what do people treat their chin's with?

25 lb Mazuri Chin Food

Anyone in the DE/PA/NJ/MD area need a bag of 25 lb Mazuri food? I paid $25 for it. $5 and it's yours. Pick up only.

If you run a rescue for chins or other small pets you can have it for free.

Nothing wrong with it, I just have one chinchilla, and want to use smaller bags.

Picking up multiple chins

Hello everyone. I was considering rescuing a friend for my lonely boy, but i had a doubt: the room my boy plays with me is the room next to where we live(living room), so if I were to have 2 boys, how do i bring them back to the cage?

Very angry chin

About two months ago I took in two more chins, a male and female (Female from a breeder, male is a petshop pet). I was so excited because the female was my first chocolate chin. They both seemed super sweet during the car ride home and even the first evening but days later the female became more and more aggressive to me. I couldn't even touch the male without her rampaging through the cage and when I separated them, she still was aggressive.

I thought this aggression was just over the cage and her cage mate but she will attack me anywhere. She bites for blood and while I wear leather gloves to handle her, she will dive bomb and bite my arm while i'm reaching in to feed them. She has bitten through my thumb nail, bruised and bloodied my arm while trying to feed her and will bite like crazy when I have the gloves on.

I have tried everything. I don't corner her (The best I can), I don't put her down when she bites and ignore it, I try to feed her by hand to gain trust but she won't eat it (I mean nothing, not even the tastiest snack), The only "Punishment" i've given her was a me blowing in her face to make her let go of my thumb and that's it. I've tried to pair her with another chin but she's attacked and drawn blood so i've given up on that.
She acts like she wants to be pet and loved on, sits at the cage bars waiting for me but when I try to, she'll bite me and not like she's looking for a snack like my other chins.

I'm at wits end here, I've had chins for over 12 years now and this is all a first for me. I feel like she was abused or something with the way she acts. Does anyone have any ideas or will she just be a forever biting chin?

Cunipic alpha pro Chinchilla

Has anyone tried this food? Opinions?

http://ift.tt/2s04KfI

It attracted me because it has 25%crude fiber, and all the other food available here in Croatia has no more than 15% of fiber

PVC in habitat??

I'm a new chin owner and I'm working on building a bigger habitat so I can welcome at least one more chin! I'm planning on making some fun play tunnels inside ...my question is, what kind of glue do I use to connect the pvc? I will be covering the inside and outside with fleece so does it matter?

Care for Old Chinchilla

Hi all,
I've got a chinchilla who will be turning 17 this year. I'm starting to notice that he's not quite the spring chicken he once was. He's still healthy and active though! He's eating, drinking, pooping perfectly fine. his coat has seen better days but I suppose that's just his age.

A few months ago he had a fall, either caused by, or resulted in, a seizure. Fortunately the seizure itself was brief. The vet took a look at him and he was in good health, and he hasn't had an issue since. We think either the fall caused the seizure, or the hay he had was bad. He started having trouble jumping to his top ledges so I redid his cage to avoid any injuries from falling. The only other issue he has is a slight heart murmur which he's had since ~2009.

I'm wondering if those of you with geriatric chins have any advice for better care? His weight is ok, though he could stand to be a little plumper. He's on oxbow pellets and timothy hay, with some alfalfa cubes. He gets a raisin every few days. I know some of you are anti-raisin, but after 17 years I'm not going to change that routine.

I thought about giving him critical care occasionally to keep his weight up but I don't want him to start refusing pellets for mush. I saw fuzzychins had a heart supplement. any thoughts?
