Chinnies rejecting cage and fighting etc

Hi there. I am new to this group and have a very weird question that I can't figure out. Hope you can help!

I have 2 female chins. Not related but been together since birth.

2 nights ago, suddenly, they started fighting and one ended up with a bleeding, bitten nose and I too got a hard bite on my hand.

We have separated them and split the cage in 2.

I put the more dominate chin in the top half and the other in the bottom half.

Gia (dominant) was so agitated. I've never seen her like that before. She tried everything to get out of the cage

Gnawing, jumping, messing up her cage. Scattered her food and toys everywhere. This continued pretty much the whole night. I thought she was trying to get to the other chin Zaza.

Last night we cleaned the entire cage. I then put Gia at the bottom and Zaza on top. She reacted exactly the same. Just wanted out. Destroying her cage, chucking food everywhere and jumping and gnawing the whole night.

Both chins are normal and relaxed in the bottom half though.

But the moment I put either of them in the top, they immediately jump back out on to me.

I let them have separate play times and let them smell each other through the cage wick seems fine but when playtime they are not really active. Each just sitting in a hidden location and not really moving.

It's like they miss each other but I am worried they will fight again.

The cage just completely baffles me. They both behave the same. What should I do or what could possibly be the problem? My husband and I took the cage apart last night and cleaned it properly everywhere, so not sure what's going on.?

Thank you
