Hello,
I am looking at making a cage for our chins and as they are in separate cages currently and I am looking at making one big cage separated down the middle so it's a top and a bottom so each pair of chins has a longer running space and some jumping space.
I have done some reading and want to check really before buying anything that what I am buying won't harm them. I have found some spruce plywood which I was thinking of making the frame for it so the top bottoms back and sides. I have read that some people have used plywood to make their cages and others say not to since the glue is toxic... so I am now unsure if it's alright or not...
I have also found some softwood plywood but I don't know any more than that as we got kicked out of store before I could ask anyone. I was also going to create some large shelves out of the plywood but again they will probably chew at them. The front I was going to use kiln dried pine for the doors and front so when they are out can chew it if they want. What are people's thoughts on this? Would the plywood be alright? If not what should I use in its place?
I am also going to have a few tiles in a corner so they can chill out and the front will have two doors which will have a small piece of Perspex in it so the chins can be seen and to stop the mess the rest of the doors would be galvanised steel mesh 16 gauge for plenty of ventilation.
As I am based in the UK if anyone has any links for the wood or idea's on how I can make it easier for myself that would be great. I have looked on B&Q, Wickes and Homebase currently but I cant find anything specifically which is kiln dried pine sheets if they even exist. I am looking at getting everything ready for the next few weeks when I can potentially start work on this while I am off over the Xmas holidays so all help is appreciated. I want our chins to have a nice big space in a natural looking environment.
Any help is appreciated
James
